Far West Local Health District Recognising National Reconciliation Week 2021
The Far West Local Health District is recognising National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) across the District with numerous events including an opening morning tea, Aboriginal art classes and a district-wide virtual art exhibition.
The theme for this year's National Reconciliation Week is 'More than a Word. Reconciliation takes Action'.
To recognise the start of Reconciliation Week and Sorry Day, the District is hosting a public Afternoon Tea tomorrow (Wednesday, 26 May) at the Wilyakali Palii-mala Kirra Community Health Centre (2-4 Sulphide Street) featuring a formal Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.
Community members are welcome to attend and participate in Reconciliation Week together. The event starts at 2pm until 3pm.
On Thursday (27 May), the FWLHD will be formally represented by the Aboriginal Clinical Leader and Mental Health Drug and Alcohol and VANs Cultural Coordinator - Ms Corina Kemp as a keynote speaker at the BH City Council Reconciliation event at the Civic Centre.
On Monday (31 May), the FWLHD and RFDS will be hosting Aboriginal art classes for the community at the RFDS Wellbeing Place (343 Blende Street, Broken Hill) from 11am to 2pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in classes provided by local Aboriginal artists.
The FWLHD will also be holding an online virtual Art Exhibition from around the District from 17 May to 3 June 2021. The exhibition is open now and everyone is encouraged to submit their artworks which will be displayed on FWLHD Facebook page.
