Final dash for Sport Clubs to Score Mental Health Grant Funding
The clock is ticking for sporting bodies and clubs to put their hat in the ring for up to $150,000 in funding to run mental health, resilience and wellbeing projects. Far West Local Health District said there is only 14 days remaining before 6 March for sports clubs to make a grant application to the $2.8 million NSW Mental Health Sports Fund.
'It is well known that participating in sport contributes to our physical health but it can also play an important role in maintaining our mental health and wellbeing by supporting a good work life balance and positively impacting on our self-esteem, our mood and our resilience to stress,' said Vanessa Smith, Acting Program Director Mental Health Drug and Alcohol.
All NSW-based sporting bodies are encouraged to apply, with the aim of ensuring a spread of funding and projects across the state. Grants will be available to clubs supporting both general populations and the following priority populations:
Aboriginal people
Culturally and linguistically diverse people
LGBTIQ+ people
People with coexisting mental health, alcohol or other drug issues.
The program builds on the success of the $1.1 million Mental Health Sport Fund in 2019-20, and applications close on 6 March 2022.
'Sporting clubs contribute significantly to the health of our communities. They can help to build healthier, happier and safer communities. They can bring a community together in times of need, foster social inclusion and provide opportunities for social interaction,' said Mrs Smith.
'This is a great opportunity for our sporting bodies and clubs to continue to positively contribute to the mental health, resilience and wellbeing of our communities. So get your applications in.'
