Newly Appointed Broken Hill Health Service General Manager
Local woman Melissa Welsh, has been appointed to the position of General Manager of the Broken Hill Health Service.
After leaving the town at 18 to study at Adelaide University, Ms Welsh began her health career in Adelaide in 1997, working in the public health system as an Occupational Therapist.
She worked interstate in clinical and management roles before returning to Broken Hill in 2007 to manage the Occupational Therapy Department.
Her passion for service improvement led to her taking on the role of Clinical Redesign and Innovation Manager for the Far West LHD in 2014. She has completed post graduate studies in health management and leadership, and her experience within the Far West LHD Clinical Governance Unit means she has a strong focus on safety, quality and service improvement.
'I am incredibly proud and humbled to have been offered the opportunity to lead and support my health colleagues in the town where I grew up, looking after the community who have supported me since I was a child,' Ms Welsh said.
She said she wanted the Broken Hill Health Service to be a service that embodies the NSW Health CORE values of collaboration, openness, respect and empowerment with a strong and overt corporate and clinical governance structure.'
Ms Welsh took up the role on 12 August 2019.
