New truck wash facilities for regional NSW

Published: 26 Apr 2017

Tenterfield will receive funding for a new truck wash facility from the Fixing Country Truck Washes program.

Users of the Tenterfield Livestock Selling Centre Truck Wash will have their average driving distance reduced by about 100 kilometres to the next available truck wash at Glenn Innes.

The truck wash will provide safety, productivity, and environmental benefits to the local community, including disease control and weed management.

It will also provide livestock carriers with a quicker and easier way to wash-out and re-load their trucks.

$600,000 in funding has been provided from a joint initiative between the NSW and Australian Governments to build and upgrade truck wash-out facilities across regional NSW.

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said the program is set to build an efficient freight transport network across regional NSW.

“The program will focus on hotspots where truck washing facilities and effluent disposal don’t currently meet the needs of truck operators, especially livestock carriers,” Mrs Pavey said.

Applicants for funding had to demonstrate that their upgraded or new facility could lawfully dispose of, or sustainably reuse, all collected waste water.

Further successful applicants from the program will be announced in coming weeks.
