Help your child get active, build self-esteem and feel healthy. The Active Kids program provides a $50 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs. You can use the voucher for registration, participation or membership costs with an approved Active Kids provider.
Through the Active Kids program, the NSW Government is tackling childhood obesity and helping kids get active.
Research shows that in NSW:
- 22% of children aged 5 to 16 years are overweight or obese
- 75% of children in NSW are not physically active for 60 minutes each day
- 44% of children spending more than two hours a day on sedentary leisure activities.
Children who are above a healthy weight can have psychological, social and health issues. Other health problems can include asthma bone and joint complications, sleep disturbance, and early onset of diabetes and heart disease.
There is strong evidence that early childhood physical activity combined with healthy eating can help people reach and maintain a healthy weight later in life.
