Overview of this event
Join a local beekeeper for a unique honey-tasting experience at a working honey farm (apiary).
Honey is a remarkable natural product made from the nectar of flowers, collected by bees. When there's an excess, it is sustainably harvested by experienced beekeepers.
The colour, viscosity, texture, and taste are all dependent on the floral source and can taste different from the same flower at different times of the year.
In this experience, you will meet the owner of the Honey farm, Hamish, who will guide you through ten different floral source honeys and will explain why each has such remarkably different tastes and appearances.
After this, you will get into a full-length beekeeping suit and go down amongst the hives for a close-up look at these remarkable pollinators.
During winter they don't open the hives but can see a lot of activity as the bees come and go. This is a weather-dependent activity, if it is very cold and wet there will be little activity to observe and we won't run these sessions.
