The works
Transport for NSW advises that Posidonia Australis seagrass translocation and rehabilitation work has begun in Botany Bay, Kurnell. To help protect the seagrass rehabilitation areas and existing Posidonia australis meadow, boat anchoring is prohibited in Botany Bay at Kurnell from Friday, 23 June 2023 until further notice.
No anchoring zone
Due to the potential to affect the safety of navigation, a No anchoring zone will be established on the navigable waters of Botany Bay in the vicinity of Kurnell. The zone runs 300 metres northwest from the shore at 1510 13.05’E 340 0.25S and then 500 metres southwest to the Ampol Fuel Wharf and then southeast to the shore at 1510 12.82’E 340 0.45S.
No unauthorised vessels or persons are permitted to anchor within the zone which will be marked by yellow special mark buoys to the north and west.
Navigation advice
Vessel operators and other waterways users are advised to exercise caution, navigate with care and not to anchor within the zone.
Directions
Transport for NSW advises:
- Persons within the zone must comply with any directions given by a Boating Safety Officer or NSW Police Officer in relation to the special event or to marine safety. Failure to comply with any such direction is an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s.15A - Maximum Penalty $3,300.00).
- No unauthorised vessels are permitted to anchor within the zone under any circumstances, and to do so may be an offence (Marine Safety Act 1998, s12(5) - Maximum Penalty $1,100.00).
