Water Monitoring Buoy Deployment

Vessel operators are advised that Department of Planning and Environment (DPE), as part of the Darling-Barka River Health Project, have deployed four (4) water monitoring buoys on the navigable waters of the Darling River at Wilcannia and Menindee, that will remain in place for approximately 6 months. They are located as follows:
- approximately 400m upstream of the Menindee town boat ramp (approximately Latitude - -32.397101 Longitude 142.419972);
- approximately 2.5km upstream of the Wilcannia Weir (approximately Latitude -31.566178 Longitude 143.404893);
- approximately 11km upstream of the Menindee Main Weir, within the Darling River in Lake Wetherell (approximately Latitude -32.312200 Longitude 142.555161); and
- approximately 8km downstream of the Menindee Main Weir (approximately Latitude -32.348771 Longitude 142.473121)
The buoys are yellow in colour and will be lit at times of restricted visibility, displaying an amber light with characteristics of a single flash every two seconds.
Vessel operators are advised to exercise caution when navigating in the vicinity of the buoys, especially during times of restricted visibility.
Vessel operators are also reminded that unauthorised use or interference with these buoys, such as securing a vessel, is an offence and penalties apply.
