10. Quality assurance
NESA quality assures NESA Accredited PD courses by:
- random, periodic and risk-based monitoring and auditing of NESA Accredited PD
- analysis of participant evaluations of NESA Accredited PD
- cancelling the accreditation of courses that do not continue to meet the requirements for accreditation
- regular evaluation and review of NESA policies and processes relating to accreditation of PD courses.
10.1 Auditing
NESA conducts desk and site-based audits of NESA Accredited PD for ongoing quality assurance purposes.
Courses are audited to determine whether the requirements and responsibilities in relation to accreditation are being met, including but not limited to:
- the upload of NESA Accredited PD courses to NESA’s database at least seven days before the course start-date
- the upload of participation data to NESA’s database within 30 days after the course end-date
- evidence of monitoring and evaluation processes in place to meet all accreditation criteria
- records confirming change of course or change of course delivery mode
- records demonstrating that a partnership exists, if applicable
- records demonstrating that a provider delivers a NESA Accredited PD course at least once a year.
An audit of a NESA Accredited PD course may be random, periodic or risk-based. NESA will issue providers with 14 days’ written notice before conducting an audit. Risk is determined by factors including, but not limited to:
- data from course evaluations
- concerns or complaints raised by teachers, an early childhood service, school/sector leaders, teacher representative organisations or other relevant stakeholders
- issues arising from a random or periodic audit undertaken by NESA.
10.2 Policy evaluation
NESA’s policy evaluation process aims to determine whether the Policy is being implemented as intended and whether the objectives are being achieved.
The intended outcomes of the Policy are to:
- ensure the availability of high-quality NESA Accredited PD courses for NSW teachers
- streamline approval processes for certain providers, while maintaining high levels of scrutiny
- improve transparency and achieve consistency in relation to policy implementation and impact.
Indicators for determining the success of the Policy include:
- high levels of teacher satisfaction evident in aggregated data from providers’ course evaluations
- fewer provider queries about requirements for approval of NESA Accredited PD
- high levels of provider compliance.
