Project at a glance

The Powerhouse Ultimo Renewal will:

• Revitalise one of Australia’s most revered museums.

• Connect the museum to the Sydney CBD and adjacent cultural precincts.

• Continue to deliver an applied arts and applied sciences program. It will present exhibitions showcasing the Powerhouse Collection and supporting the creative industries.

• Contribute to the growing night-time and visitor economies.

The Powerhouse Ultimo Renewal will complement:

• Powerhouse Parramatta

• Powerhouse Castle Hill (Museum Discovery Centre) and

• Sydney Observatory.

Project Status

The NSW Government has committed to the heritage revitalisation of the Powerhouse Museum Ultimo, and will undertake further consultation on the details and timing of the redevelopment.

Who is it for

The Powerhouse Ultimo Renewal is for anyone curious about art, culture, applied science, and design. It will be of major interest to locals, interstate visitors and international visitors.  

The Powerhouse Ultimo Renewal will support and be at the heart of a new dynamic creative industries precinct for Sydney.
