This is one of the Create NSW properties that are provided to support the arts and cultural sector in NSW.
Location and History
One Canal Road is located in Leichhardt, in Sydney's Inner West. It's only 10 minutes from Sydney CBD and 40 minutes from the airport.
The site was originally a public works depot from 1913 to 1992. It then became a film and arts industry precinct, hosting many local and international productions.
Highlights and Amenities
The former public works site in Leichhardt is currently home to over 50 industry tenants across 19 sectors - Art Dept, Camera, Catering, Costume Hire, Costume Design, Engineering & Fabrications, Grips, Electrics & Lighting, Graphics & Multimedia, Location Services, Model Making, Props Hire, Scenic Art, Sculptors, Set Building, Shoe Making, Special Effects, Standby Props, Theatre Production, Unit Dept and Wig-making.
Since 2001 the tenants onsite have worked on over 450 Features, TV dramas, Theatre, and countless TV commercials.
The precinct has 1,407 sqm of dedicated space for film and television productionsavailable for hire. These spaces are across four buildings, and studio for camera tests, rehearsals, and Sim-Trav.

- 4 x Production offices – 470 sqm
- 2 x Art department sub-offices and workshops – 600 sqm
- 1 x Wardrobe space – 128.8 sqm
- 1 x Studio – half cyclorama, separate
- Greenroom and hair and makeup – 208 sqm
The production offices are fitted with furniture, high-speed internet, split system air-conditioning, a kitchenette and parking is available. The wardrobe space has a separate laundry facility fitted with commercial washers, dryers, and wardrobe racks.
Some of the previous productions onsite include: Bump S4, First Wars, Prosper, The Messenger, Significant Others, The Appleton Ladies, Wolf Like Me, Back to the Rafters, Hardball (seasons one and two), Married at First Sight, Drover’s Wife, The Sapphires, Underbelly, Mr Inbetween (season three), and Babyteeth.
Create Infrastructure is responsible for the maintenance, development, and leasing of the site. It also supports the tenants and users of the site with various services and programs.
The unique mix of clients (see above) provides a supportive and collaborative environment that fosters networking, knowledge sharing, and innovation among tenants and users.
