School principals can determine some exam provisions
There are also some exam provisions that school principals can determine a student can use.
These include:
- bite-sized food
- coloured lenses or overlay
- drink (other than water)
- heat pack
- ice pack
- individual instructions
- medication
- padded chair/pillow
- permission to stand/stretch
- special chair
- special desk
- special lighting
- towel (to wipe excess moisture from hands)
- varied seating (within main cohort)
- ventilation
- vision aids.
The school still needs to gather and keep supporting information for principal-determined provisions, ask the student to fill in a declaration and submit an application to NESA.
You can find common provisions by exam need, condition or disability
Use the button below to find more information about the most common provisions. We recommend you try several different search terms to make sure you find all provisions that might be relevant.
For example, a student with ADHD might search for both the formal diagnosis and some of the functional effects they have:
- ADHD
- medication
- concentration difficulties
- restless.
Search for HSC exam provisions
Note that applications need to include the right supporting information for each provision they request. So the above student would need information such as a medical report including confirmation that they may need to take medication during the exam and have concentration difficulties and restlessness.
