Protecting privacy
NESA has a legal obligation to maintain the privacy of students, teachers and parents when dealing with their personal information.
The Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act)and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act) outline how NESA must comply with the:
- Information Protection Principles (IPPs) in the PPIP Act
- Health Privacy Principles (HPPs) in the HRIP Act.
These laws regulate the collection, storage, use and disclosure of personal and health information held by NSW government agencies.
Any personal or health information collected from you by NESA will be used or disclosed only for the purpose of NESA exercising its functions, or for directly related purposes.
This is unless:
- you consent to another use or the disclosure of your information, or
- disclosure is required or permitted by law.
