Paediatrics in Western Sydney
The Children’s Ward at Mount Druitt Hospital provides general paediatric care. We also run outpatient and allergy clinics and support children with complex medical needs in the community.
Our Paediatric team works closely with the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network to ensure access to paediatric services when required.
We are committed to Closing the Gap and delivering best-practice care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as for culturally and linguistically diverse and disadvantaged communities.
We provide General Paediatric, and some General Surgical and Orthopaedic Care. Our Children's Ward cares for children aged 0 up to 16 years.
The ward is supported by our Ambulatory Clinic, which provides short term follow-up for children discharged from the Children's Ward or Emergency Department.
The ward includes a purpose designed play room, a Child Life Therapist, and a landscaped outdoor garden space.
Emergency Departments are located at both Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals with a dedicated paediatric service on both sites.
Children who present to Blacktown Hospital Emergency Department and who require admission will be transferred to the Mount Druitt Hospital Children's Ward.
We host the following outpatient clinics at Mt Druitt Hospital:
- General Paediatric Clinics
- Paediatric Allergy Clinics
- Skin Prick Testing (referrals from specialists only)
- Food Challenge Clinics
- Audiology services
- Eye Clinics.
Our Children's Outreach Service at Mt Druitt Hospital ensures the continuation of care from hospital to the home.
We check progress and review patients, and connect families with their GP or specialist services if required.
All referrals to General Paediatric Outpatient Clinics and the Paediatric Allergy Clinic (including Skin Prick Testing) are managed through Mount Druitt Hospital Paediatric Outpatients and use the same referral process.
